Why Focus on Multilingual Learners and the Bilingual Teacher Pipeline?

In today’s diverse society, multilingualism is a strength, not a barrier.

The United States is experiencing rapid demographic shifts, with an increasing number of students speaking languages other than English at home.

Despite this growing diversity, many multilingual learners face significant challenges that stem from gaps in our education system, such as:

Limited Access to Quality Programs
Many schools lack robust dual language or bilingual programs, leaving multilingual students without the targeted support they need to fully engage in academic learning.
Insufficient Teacher Training
There is a notable shortage of educators trained to address multilingual learners’ unique needs.  Schools struggle to create inclusive, effective learning environments without a well-prepared bilingual teacher pipeline.

A pioneering organization dedicated to making education accessible for multilingual learners by building prepared teachers, strong leadership, and a positive school culture so all students can thrive academically.

Honoring Our Legacy Commitments

While our primary focus is on transforming education through support for multilingual learners and bilingual educators, our philanthropic vision extends beyond the classroom.

In honor of personal passions and family legacy, the Sullivan Family Charitable Foundation also supports a select group of organizations dedicated to the arts, culture, veterans, and community well-being.

These include:

  • The 1st Lt. Scott Milley Fund (Sudbury, MA), honoring the sacrifice and service of our nation’s veterans.
  • Arts and culture initiatives such as the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Glen Echo Park Partnership, and Evanston Dance Ensemble.
  • Community anchors like the Friends of the Community Learning Center (Cambridge, MA), and The Preservation Society of Newport County (Newport, RI).
